Sell One Thing Today

The first money that does not come from an employer changes your picture of the world rather than your budget: it turns out money can arrive without anyone's permission.

Walk through your home and find something you have not used in a year that still works: a phone in a drawer, a bike, a tool, a lens, a pushchair, a console, skis. Take four honest photos in daylight, defects included, and write three lines: what it is, what condition it is in, why you are selling. Look at three similar listings and price yours slightly below the middle — today's task is to sell, not to squeeze out the maximum. List it where people in your town actually look: Blocket, Tradera, eBay Kleinanzeigen, Marketplace, or the local group chat. Reply to messages within the hour and do not apologise for your price. Take it to the end: money in your account, the thing with its buyer.

When the money arrives the sum will almost certainly feel small while the feeling will be disproportionately strong — because it is the first income in a long time that depended only on something you did. Do not spend it the same day on nothing in particular: put it aside and write down what this money is, or it dissolves and the experience is forgotten. If it did not sell, the reason is nearly always one of three — dark photos, too much text, an «as new» price; redo the photos tomorrow instead of taking the listing down. And notice which part was hardest: setting the price, replying to a stranger, or handing the thing over.
