Box up the objects of the role you've outgrown and put them out of sight for a week.
Why this matters
While the objects of an old role stay in sight, you silently agree to keep playing it.
What to do
Name the role you have outgrown: a job, a sport, a relationship, a city, a hobby. Walk through your home and put into one box the things that keep it alive: the badge, the uniform, the tool, the branded mug, the pile of papers, the gifts. Throw nothing away — today the task is not to part with them but to stop seeing them. Tape the box, write the date on it, and put it somewhere you do not look every day. Live a week and notice when your hand or your eyes go to the empty spot. After a week, open it and sort into three piles: bring back, give away, throw out — now you are deciding with a clear head.
