A Day Without Sorry
medium growth 480 min +40 XP
Do not apologise all day where you are not at fault. Replace sorry with thank you.
Why this matters
Apologising for simply existing — for asking, for standing in the queue, for the other person being two minutes late — is a toll paid for the right to be here. Whoever pays that toll daily keeps being charged it.
What to do
From morning to evening, track one word. If you really are at fault, apologise calmly and to the point — that is not forbidden. Change everything else: instead of sorry for keeping you, thank you for waiting; instead of sorry for the stupid question, just the question; instead of sorry to bother you, thank you for the minute. Count on paper or in notes every time the word slipped out, and write next to it who it was said to. In the evening look at the list of names.
Afterwards
By midday you can hear that thank you sounds warmer than sorry, and people react better rather than worse. The list of names usually repeats two or three people — that is the map of where you feel you do not belong. If the count passed twenty, do not call it a failure: today you heard for the first time a word you had been saying without noticing.
