Why this matters
A skill you have never put a price on stays a hobby. A price is not greed, it is the line past which work stops being a favour.
What to do
Write down three things you do better than average and that people have already asked you to do for free: translate, repair, photograph, sort out a spreadsheet, mind a child, assemble furniture, write a text. Pick one. Find one specific person or one small business who needs it right now — not an «audience», a name. Send a short message: what you do, by when, what it costs. State the price as a number and do not append «but we can discuss it», «whatever you think is fair», «I can go cheaper». Send it today and do not edit the figure afterwards.
Afterwards
The hardest part is not sending it but the moment you type the number: your hand will want to shave it down, and that is the only part of the task that really matters. Shame often arrives after sending, though nothing shameful happened — that is what a habit of giving your time away feels like. If they say no, ask whether it was the price or simply not needed; that is cheap and precise feedback. If nobody replies, do not lower the price for the next person — send the same figure to a second one: a price is tested on several people, not on one.
