Make a bird feeder and hang it in a park.
Why this matters
Hanging a feeder is easy and easy to forget. The interesting part is the second half — going back to see if anyone came.
What to do
Build a feeder from what you already have at home: a plastic bottle with a window cut out, a wooden box, sturdy cardboard. Make sure it has a roof against rain, a rim so the seed does not spill, and a perch. Fill it with what birds can actually eat: unsalted seeds, oats, unsalted fat in winter — no bread and nothing salted. Hang it above head height, on a thinner branch so cats cannot reach, and away from the footpath. Come back after two days and see whether the food has been touched; if not, move it somewhere quieter. Promise yourself to refill it weekly — an abandoned feeder is worse than none.
