Why this matters
There are animals near your home whose day depends on chance. Fifteen minutes, and today that chance is you.
What to do
Find out who in your area can be fed and with what: bread harms pigeons and ducks, they need grain, oats or a ready mix, while a stray cat does fine with ordinary wet food. Buy a small pack — that is enough. Find a place where the animals actually stay: a courtyard, a park, a pond, the garages. Put the food on the ground or in a clean lid, step back a few paces and wait — they will not eat with a human standing over them. Take the packaging away with you. If someone nearby feeds them regularly, ask what is missing — often water and a bowl matter more than food.
