Why this matters
We see ourselves badly without the job title. Others see it better — nobody has asked them.
What to do
Pick three different people: someone from your family, a friend, and someone from work. Ask each of them the same question: who would I be if I did not have this job. Do not offer options and do not laugh it off in advance — you will get a polite answer if you do. If they joke, ask again seriously and wait; silence usually pulls out the real answer. Write all three answers down word for word the same day, before your head rewrites them. Look at the list a day later and mark what repeats across people — the overlap matters more than the most flattering answer.
