The Real Reason
spicy connection 30 min +70 XP
Go back to one old refusal and tell the person the real reason you said no.
Why this matters
A convenient excuse protects your image of yourself more than it protects the relationship. The other person usually senses the reason was different anyway — the silence only leaves it unnamed.
What to do
Recall a time you refused, cancelled or did not show up and gave the wrong reason: you said busy when in fact you did not want to, were afraid, were hurt, or had no money. Find that person and say: back then I told you one thing, but the reason was different. Name the real one in a single sentence. Do not ask forgiveness in the same breath — truth first, everything else after, if you still want it. Let them respond and do not argue with their reaction.
Afterwards
Often the answer is I thought as much — and it becomes clear the excuse only fooled you. There may also be hurt, especially if they had made an effort back then; in that case do not take the words back, just stay in the conversation. If the person is gone or unreachable, write the real reason in a letter and do not send it — then reread it a day later and decide whether to send.
