What to do
Check the budget and the season: Fuerteventura is warm all year, but from November to March it is windy — this is a kitesurfers' island, not a quiet-beach one. Book the week and the car at the same time: without a car you will not see the island, the buses are rare. Choose three places and write them down before you fly — for instance the dunes of Corralejo, the wild beaches of Cofete in the south, and the village of Betancuria inland. Stay in a small village rather than the hotel strip, that is where the island is real. Leave one day completely empty, with no plan. On the last evening go back to whichever of the three got to you and sit there once more.
