Badly, and in Public
spicy courage 30 min +70 XP
Spend half an hour doing something you are bad at, in front of witnesses, without apologising once.
Why this matters
Adults stop learning not for lack of time but because they cannot bear being unskilled in front of others. Apologising for your clumsiness is a way of leaving the process before it gets frightening.
What to do
Pick something you are plainly bad at and where it shows: a language you are learning, dancing, an instrument, skating, drawing, a game where you are a beginner. Find a place where other people are present and do it for thirty minutes straight. One rule: never say I am hopeless at this, sorry, it is my first time. No explaining, no laughing at yourself first, no apologetic looks. If asked, answer simply: I am learning.
Afterwards
Most likely you will find that people watch kindly or do not watch at all, and the hardest part was not apologising. If shame comes in a wave, do not stop: it lasts about three minutes and only fades if you do not run. If you lasted less, write down at which minute you wanted to explain yourself, and repeat tomorrow starting from that number.
