Why this matters
Everyone feels awkward on a stage. The only difference is who let that stop them.
What to do
Find an acting or improv studio in your town and pick the beginners' course, not the continuing one. Go to a trial class — almost everywhere has one, and it tells you immediately whether this is your group. Pay for the whole block rather than class by class: money already spent is what gets you out of the house on the evening you do not feel like it. In the first class do not sit in the back row and do not wait to be called on. It will feel embarrassing and silly — that is not a side effect, that is the content of the course. Finish the block even if you want to quit after the third session.
