Why this matters
A task that only you have done for years stops being help and turns into a cage.
What to do
Name the task that has rested on you alone for years: the bills, the repairs, the calls to your parents, the report, the shopping. Pick someone who can handle it and hand over the whole thing, not a slice: show them where everything is and explain it once. Say plainly that from now on it is theirs and that you will not be checking. Then comes the hard part — not hovering, not asking how it is going, not redoing it afterwards. If it is done worse than you would do it, leave it: that is the price of the task becoming shared. After a week ask once whether they need help, and stop there.
