Dream Car

Rent your dream car for a day or take a test drive
Why this matters
It helps to touch a dream with your hands. Sometimes it holds up, sometimes it lets you go.
What to do
Name a specific car, not a category: not a sports car, but the make and model that hung on your wall. From there two routes — rent it for a day, or take a dealer test drive; the second is free but comes with a salesperson in the passenger seat. Book ahead and check your licence and years of driving: rental firms often have an age threshold. Before you drive, sit in it motionless for five minutes: the smell, the seating position, where your hands land. Do not drive it in town, find an empty country road — in traffic every car is the same. Give it back and tell yourself honestly what you felt: sometimes the dream turns out smaller in reality than it was on the wall.
Afterwards
What did I actually want from that car — the car, or the person I feel like next to it?
