Call parents or close ones just to say you love them
Why this matters
We call our parents when there is a reason and almost never without one. They hear the difference immediately.
What to do
Call today, not when you have time — you will not have time. Do not open with questions about health and pills, that turns the call into a report. Say straight out why you called: you missed them, you remembered something, you wanted to say you love them. Then ask about small things from their day — what they ate, what they watched, who came by. If the word love will not come out, say what you can: that you are grateful, that you think about them. A pause on the line after words like that is normal, do not fill it.
