One Question for the Older One
spicy connection 45 min +70 XP
Ask a parent or older relative the question you have postponed for years, and hear the answer out.
Why this matters
This question has an expiry date. It closes together with the person, and after that the answer cannot be retrieved from anywhere — not from archives, not from other people’s memories.
What to do
Formulate the one question you have never asked: why you two split up, what you were afraid of at my age, what you regret, where that money or that move came from, what happened to your father. Call or come over and say: I have a question, I have wanted to ask it for a long time. Ask exactly one and go silent. Do not argue with the version, do not correct the dates, do not defend yourself if a reproach comes with it. When they finish, ask only: and what happened next. Write the answer down the same day, while you still remember the wording.
Afterwards
They usually answer more readily than you expected — older people often wait decades to be asked. The answer may be uncomfortable or contradict the family version; today your job is not to verify it but to hear it. If they dodged the question, do not push, and come back a week later with the same question word for word: second attempts get answered more often than first ones.
