Ask for It Back

spicy courage 30 min +70 XP

Write to the person who owes you money and name the amount and a date. No jokes, no «if it suits you».

Why this matters

An unreturned loan usually costs a friendship more than the conversation about it would: the silent lender quietly starts avoiding the borrower.

What to do

Think of who owes you and how much — money you handed over and stopped expecting back. Pick one person, not the easiest one but the one you think about most. Send them a short message in three parts: the amount, when it happened, and the date by which you need it back. No smileys, no «sorry to bring this up», no «if it is not too much trouble», no «whenever you can» — those are the exact words that keep a debt hanging into a second year. If money is genuinely tight for them, offer to split it yourself and name the first date. Send it, and do not rewrite the message ten times in your head afterwards.

Afterwards

The shame in this moment is usually felt by the one asking, not the one owing — and that inverted feeling shows you exactly where you are used to paying for other people's comfort. The answer will most likely come faster and calmer than you expected: people were often just waiting to be reminded. If nothing comes back within two days, send the same text again, without hurt and without explanation; silence is an answer, but not the final one. If the money never comes back, decide today whether you are calling it a gift, and say that out loud to yourself — that stops the debt from quietly poisoning the relationship.
