Four hours will not save the world, but they show you who keeps it afloat every day.
What to do
Find an organisation nearby that needs hands rather than money: an animal shelter, a food bank, a care home, a night shelter, a parish kitchen. Call or write a few days ahead — they usually cannot take walk-ins, and that is fair. Ask straight out what the work is and what to bring: shoes, gloves, your own food. On site do not improve their system, do what you are told: for the first hours you are a burden, not help. Work the whole shift including the boring part — there always is one. On your way out, ask when they need people next.
