Write short poem about first object you see
Why this matters
A poem about a kettle makes you look at the kettle longer than you have in all the years you owned it.
What to do
Look around and take the first object your eye caught on — do not pick the prettiest one. Spend a minute just looking at it and name five things to yourself: its shape, colour, smell, sound, how it came to be yours. Write four to eight lines; rhyme is optional. Do not write about yourself through the object — write about the object, and the feeling will arrive on its own. Read it out loud once, and rewrite whatever does not sound right.
Afterwards
What did you notice in that object that you had never seen, though it has been next to you for ages?
