Mämmi

medium courage 60 min +110 XP

A Finnish Easter dessert of rye malt. It looks alarming and is served with cream and sugar

Why this matters

What's being tested here isn't courage, but how much your 'this is disgusting' depends on how a thing looks.

What to do

Buying is easier than cooking: in Finland mammi is in every shop before Easter, in little cardboard boxes, and costs next to nothing. Outside Finland, look for a Finnish or Scandinavian shop, or order online in advance — the season is short. Take it out of the fridge half an hour before eating; cold, it gives almost no flavour. Spoon it into a bowl and definitely pour cream over it and sprinkle sugar: without those, people eat it mostly on a dare. Don't stare at it too long before the first spoonful — it does look heavy, and the taste is calm and malty, a bit like rye bread with molasses. Have at least three spoonfuls before deciding whether you like it: the first one is about the looks, not the taste.

Afterwards

How many foods do you avoid for the taste — and how many for the look?
