Collect 7 leaves of different shapes and describe each in three words.
Why this matters
We see leaves as a mass, as background. One at a time they stop being identical.
What to do
Walk down the street and collect only fallen leaves — no need to pull any off a branch. The rule: seven different shapes, not seven pretty ones, so you will have to look at the ground more carefully than usual. Take the small ones, the torn ones and the dried-out ones too — their shapes differ more than the intact ones. At home lay them out in a row and give each one three words: one for shape, one for colour, one for what it resembles. No word may repeat — by the fifth leaf it gets hard, and that is the interesting part. Leave them between the pages of a book and find them again in a month.
